vicki-blog/open tuning#1

By genfanblog

Thanks for tuning in…  I’m hoping to become a skillful blogger, right now I’m just a beginner.  Let me know what you think makes a good blog, would you?  Photos, video, slideshows, guitar-talk, tuning-talk, travel talk? How ’bout sharing my guitar tunings with you….

‘Tuning of the Day’: Try this on a guitar or other ’stringed’ instrument. Starting with the lowest string – C G D G C D.  It’s one of my favorites.  If you want some direction on how to go about finding cool stuff in a tuning, let me know and I’ll give you some tips.

Before I sign off , I’d love to thank Ariel from Ariel’s Cyber PR (www.arielpublicity.com) and Bob Baker from the Buzz Factor (www.thebuzzfactor.com) for their incredible ‘Publicity Bootcamp’ seminar last Saturday.  It’s ’cause of you that I’m here now – blogging away.  And of course thanks to www.wordpress.com for making this so easy (so far!!).

Peace to all,

Vicki

Cool! Thanks for inviting me to your blog. I’ve never tried alternate tunings before, and with your help perhaps I’ll let my hair down and give it a go. Take care!

hi vicki! hooray, a blog! :)

and, i’d LOVE some ideas about how to find cool stuff in new tunings. i’ve only been playing guitar for about nine months and have just recently started experimenting with alternative tunings beyond dropped-D (mostly via ani difranco and joni mitchell songs).

lots of love to you, and can’t wait to see you at your mo pitkins show!

    xoxo.

hi, vicki! as that certain individual who never gets to your shows (but always wants to very much), i love that you’re blogging. here’s a q4u: i’d love to know your thoughts on covers. do you do them (alas, its been so long)? if so, would you share how you select them, what’s involved putting it into your style (tunings) and sensibility? sorry if this is stupid, i never get to talk to you about these things anymore… anyway, just interested… love, best to t… see you mps, i hope.

    Hi Vicki!

Great idea to share some of your tunings. I am always trying new tunings, create a couple of songs, try new tunings, forget about the other tunings and end up don’t knowing anymore how to play my own songs – quite confusing but still a lot of fun to me.
My favorite is dadgad by the way. It’s the only damn tuning I remember to play my songs so, lol

    Peace and noise,
    Stefan

Hi Vicki, first of all I’d like to say that you’re style is unbelievable. My father turned me on to your videos and I’ve been thinking for about a month now that I’d really love to be able to get started down that path. I see the way you play as suited best to the direction I’d like to take my playing and eventually songwriting.

So I’m asking if you’d be interested in giving me lessons, even if it’s just a few to get me started. I live in PA and will soon live in Brooklyn, NY… trying to follow the dream as a songwriter. I’ve spent the last 6 years learning how to sing and write songs and I feel that my guitar playing needs to be my next area of extreme focus and dedication.

I’m going to send this to a few places where I think you might get it… if you’re in the lesson giving market and have any recommendations for someone I could become a student to, I would greatly appreciate that information as well!

Best! and I hope to hear from you soon!!!
    jason

    Hi Vicki,

thanks very much for sharing your tunings. I will try the above mentioned tuning this evening. My fav’s are standard G and D tunings but leaving the lower E string to E :-) ) – I don’t know why, but I think I feel safe in leaving it. If you are interested, you can listen to those non-standard tunings by visiting my site. The song “Desperation” (the player shows: The Men Behind feat. Robs Didge N0. 09) is in nonstandard D with capo in 2nd fret and Song No 23 She came.. is in nonstandard G capo in third fret – Song no 3 and 4 are in the same tuning.

    Cheers and take care,

    Mark
